One of the most common questions we hear from families is some version of: “What actually happens to everything?” And it’s a completely fair question. You’re handing over a lifetime of belongings to a team of strangers and trusting them to handle it with care. You deserve to know exactly what that looks like.

So here it is — no vague promises, no marketing fluff. Just a straight answer about what happens during an Easy Transitions 101 estate clean out, from the moment we arrive to the moment we hand you a cleared property.

What Happens during Estate Cleanout by Easy Transitions 101

Step 1: The Walkthrough and Assessment

Before anything moves, we walk through the entire property with you (or a family representative) and assess the contents room by room. We’re looking at everything: furniture, clothing, kitchenware, tools, jewelry, artwork, collectibles, and anything else present in the home.

This walkthrough serves two purposes:

First, it gives us a clear picture of what we’re working with.

Second, it lets us flag items of potential value before they accidentally end up in a trash bag.

(It happens. We’ve seen it. We’ve stopped it.)

Step 2: Items Are Sorted into Categories

Once we begin the cleanout, everything gets sorted:

  • Sellable items — furniture, collectibles, vintage goods, appliances, tools, and more go into our resale and estate sale pipeline
  • Gold, silver, and jewelry — assessed and purchased directly through our Top Cash for Gold Buyers division
  • Donation-worthy items — clothing, housewares, and usable goods are coordinated for charitable donation where appropriate
  • True junk — broken, unsalvageable, or unsellable items are removed and disposed of responsibly

Nothing goes in the trash pile until we’ve decided it belongs there. That’s the difference between an estate clean out and a junk haul.

Step 3: Valuable Items Are Handled Separately

Any items identified as having resale or monetary value are set aside and handled through the appropriate channel — whether that’s an estate sale, a direct buyout, or our gold buying service. If we find something unexpected (a coin collection in a shoebox, jewelry in a coat pocket), we stop and make sure you know about it.

Step 4: The Property Is Cleared and Swept

Once sorting and removal are complete, we do a full clear of the property — every room, every closet, every corner of the basement. We finish with a broom sweep so the property is clean and ready for whatever comes next, whether that’s a contractor, a real estate agent, or a family walkthrough.

Step 5: You Get a Clear Summary

At the end of the process, we’ll walk you through what was found, what was sold or donated, and what the final accounting looks like if items were purchased or sold on your behalf. No black box, no mystery — just a clear picture of what happened to your family member’s belongings.

What We Don’t Do

We don’t take anything without your knowledge or consent. We don’t make decisions about sentimental items — those stay with the family unless you tell us otherwise. And we don’t rush the process in a way that skips the careful sorting that protects you.
